They are very noisy but their beautiful colors compensate for the shouting quack.
Male and female ducks usually look very different.
This is a female mallard duck. Though, her mottled brown plumage is not as beautiful as the drake's, she still has a white tail and iridescent purple-blue wing feathers that are visible as a patch on her sides.
And this is the male mallard, or drake.
With his green head, white neck ring, chestnut colored breast and yellow bill is the more distinctively colored of the mallards. He also has two dark tail feathers with an upward curl.

People are feeding bread to the ducks so they come closer. Unfortunately, this is a very bad habit as the ducks become dependent on human handouts or they eat too much and unhealthy, like the duck bellow.
The water is cold, so this mallard duck pair decided to take a rest and warm up a little.

Cute ducks! I like the perfect shadows in the first 2 photos.
Wow, the first ones do look like paintings! They all would look nice in frames.
Thanks for leaving a comment on my cc post. It makes me feel good when someone who I see is a photographer who knows what they are doing when they take a photo leave a comment on my blog.
They are so beautiful. I must say that never can help taking photos of them:)
Have a lovely week, and thanks for visiting my blogs:)
Mallards are such pretty ducks. Most of the ones I see in Canada fly south for the winter but a few hang out in water that never freezes over.
Many places here now post signs asking people to NOT feed the ducks.
Nice photos!
