I took these tulip photos on a beautiful sunny weather, the favorite time for rose chafers to show up. They are feeding on the petals of the tulip.
The Rose Chafer, Cetonia Aurata, is a beautiful, shiny, emerald green, and quite large beetle.
The Rose Chafer, Cetonia Aurata, is a beautiful, shiny, emerald green, and quite large beetle.

They are very beautifully colored insects and look like jewels with their metallic green and coppery back, shining in the sunlight. See that pattern (above) formed by the ragged white marks running width ways across the wing.

For some reason they only like white and light colored tulips; there was not one rose chafer on tulips of darker colors.

Beautiful macro images!
Maia I've never seen a little critter like that before in my scottish garden. He sure has some unusual colouring. Its great to have found your blogs and I look forward to sharing more photos with you in the future. Rosie
How strange that they like only the white flowers. Maybe they like showing off their coloring.
Really a great photo!!

Great close-up shots! We love the flowers, why wouldn't they ~ lol.
Learned something new..
Rosechafers like only light coloured tulips.
Thank you for the great shots!
Hello Maia, thank you for sharing these delightful photos with Today's Flowers. They are beautiful and that pretty green beetle is a very nice addition. I have never seen this one before. Have a great week.
Very beautiful beetles but I prefer my roses without them.
Great macro shots - I am sorry I missed Macro Saturday, I will try to remember for the future.
What an interesting fellow, the coloring is quite beautiful. It is interesting that they prefer the lighter colored flowers.
hola! tienes un espacio precioso, bellísimas fotos!
saludos.
I love the pollen all over the beetle on the second shot.
What a beautiful little bug. I especially like the second shot.
Now, he's gorgeous, isn't he? I would gladly sacrifice some tulip petals if he would visit me!
Lovely photos! :)
Brilliant and beautiful!

They are beautiful! I never knew about them before but I wonder if that's what we had around a lot when I was a kid. We had a lot of roses and had many green beetles but I never thought about the two belonging together. Beautiful images!
Nice close ups!
