The showy bell-shaped flowers which engulf the plant early summer are of many colors: white, pink, red and sometimes yellow. This is the red variety of Weigela florida, a lovely ornamental species.

This is one of my favorites. and it does attract bees. Let's hope it continues to do so - we need them.

My purple leafed weigela has just come into bloom aswell. I love their blooms against the dark foliage.
They are so easy to propagate so I can imagine that it would be easy to find them growing in the wild. Just break a branch off - stick it in the ground a few inches deep and leave it till next year and it should start growing. I've done this so many times and it works with most of them.
Lovely shots Maia
What a beautiful bush! It's huge! And, delightfully the host of bees and hummingbirds, too! Very beautiful.
Beautiful summer photos. I too have been taking pictures of the flowers and the insects that pollinate them.
